Despite the heavy snow storm which is the worst in18 years, overseas Chinese students and residents were gathering together on both sides of west road where the concert hall is located, keen to welcome our beloved premier Wen Jiabao with passion and the love to our great motherland
When we heard the news that our PM were interrupted by some anti-china groups yesterday in London, and 5 people who were trying to approach our premier were arrested ,charged as a breach of peace. Consequently we simultaneously have the same belief—the thing we must do as a Chinese Cambridge student—to make our premier be in a cheerful mood while his journey in Cambridge.
As Wen had announced to the public that he would have a speech in Cambridge today, for the dignity of China and of being as a Chinese citizen, we came here at midday—3 hours before Jiabao comes. We did this to ensure no place left for so-called protesters to stay.
However, to our disappointment, the Cambridge police had actually reserved a space for them!!
I tried to approach the free Tibet groups but I was excluded by the police. “Are you pro or anti? If anti, you can come in..’ . Is this what freedom of speech in UK means? And funny enough, the protesters are 90% English, only 3or 4 Chinese people were there. This is a question for all the western people who have prejudice on china. There was a journalist from Cambridge university New interviewed me ,asking that “r u protesters?”” what the banner you are holding mean?is it to protest the Chinese PM?” . ..the british were brainwashed and thought all the people there were protesting..
At this time ,you can see how the cohesion of the great nation dramatically reinforced at this particular time .old Chinese UK residents kept beating gongs and sound drums, or playing as a role in the dragon dancing to show their welcome to the dear PM..
We were hotly indignant when we heard that there was a shoe-thrower interrupted the speech. But like afterwards what the PM said, him, as a single, cannot influence the friendship between people in china or UK. And I truly believe that. all the English people around me all have a same comment on this ”shamed on him!
When the speech was finished, on his way out the road, we were chanting slogans and waving banners to our premier. Jiabao stopped right in front of me, and waved hand to us in the car…we love Jiabao,we love China !
